Wild and exciting things to try on your next holiday

Not every adventurer likes to do the same things. For some people, the most adventure they want on their holidays is a long relaxing day on the beach with a lazy swim in between morning and afternoon. But, for the adrenaline junkies and active adventurers out there, try something new the next time you are on holiday. Here are some wild and exciting things to try and tackle on your next trip. Bonus: they’re all covered by your youGo policy*.

Paragliding

If you have never heard of paragliding before, you are in for a treat. Paragliding is a recreational and competitive sport where you fly using paragliders which are light-weight, free-flying, foot-launched glider aircraft with no rigid structure. The pilot is suspended beneath the fabric wing and even though there is no engine, paraglider flights can last for hours on end and cover hundreds of kilometres, though a normal flight length is closer to 1-2 hours. Not only is paragliding a blast, but it’s also easily carried about. All the needed equipment can fit in a rucksack and carried on buses in a car and more.

White water rafting

If you are an outdoor adventurer with a love of nature, then try your hand at white water rafting. White water rafting is an outdoor adventure sport that challenges your body and creates an escape from the habits of day to day. Regardless of your skill level, there is a white water rafting course that is perfect for you. During your tour, you will guide and paddle a craft through white water, or a river’s rapids. If the lazy river isn’t exciting enough for you, try upping the rapid classification for an adrenaline pumping experience. You’ll be in a raft with others and working together to navigate the river’s twists, turns, rocks and rapids to make it to the end. If you prefer to skip the group activities, look for duck adventures, where the craft is smaller and just you or you and a friend can journey down the river.

Ballooning

If you want to take to the skies in a slightly less active fashion than paragliding, consider a hot air balloon. The energy and excitement is still there because you will be high up in the sky with only a massive propane burner to keep you aloft. You will get a bird’s eye view on a place without feeling like you’re moving and without any substantial amount of noise because the balloon moves with the directions of the winds.

Bungy jumping

This is the activity for the brave of heart, without fear of heights or serious bodily injury. It sounds made up, but bungy jumping is when someone leaps from a tall structure while connected to a large elastic cord on the base. The tall structure is fixed, and the thrill comes, as you might imagine, from the feeling of free-falling into the beyond and the feeling of the rebound that comes from the elastic cord.

Skydiving

If you thought Bungy jumping was intense, you haven’t seen anything yet. Skydiving is the ultimate thrill, and requires a lot of confidence in yourself or your guide. Skydiving is an action sport where you jump out of a plane and return to Earth with the help of gravity. The only thing letting you gracefully land is a parachute that opens upon descent. There is a sufficient amount of free-fall, where the parachute hasn’t been deployed and you are falling towards the Earth uninhibited. For the uninitiated this may sound insane, but for those who have done it, the stories of their jumps make it clear it’s a great choice for the brave adventurer.

Excitement and adventure await. If laying on the beach isn’t cutting it for you anymore and you want to get going and stay active on your holiday, check out the five adrenaline-pumping activities in the list above and pick your preference. When you are packing for your next thrilling trip, don’t forget to pack travel insurance from youGo Travel Insurance.
